One of the key novels of the 1930s Harlem Renaissance, Ollie Miss marked a major contribution to the rich legacy of African American literature. Set in Alabama's Macon County, the novel tells an evocative tale of a young African American woman attempting to make a life for herself in the poor, rural South during the early decades of the 20th century. About the Author George Wylie Henderson (1904–1965), a writer who contributed to the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s and 1930s, was born in Alabama, attended the Tuskegee Institute, and moved to New York as a young man. He worked for the New York Daily News as a printer and also wrote stories published in the News and in Redbook Magazine. He is the author of two novels, Ollie Miss (1935) and Jule (1946).
